Executive Director Events


Tourism WA is part of the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation portfolio and is Western Australia’s lead agency for economic development, international trade and investment, and tourism. For further information, you should visit their website at www.jtsi.wa.gov.au.

Tourism WA is responsible for promoting Western Australia as an extraordinary holiday destination.

Their focus is on marketing the State; developing, attracting and promoting major sporting, cultural and business events; and supporting the development of significant tourism infrastructure and projects.

The Events division develops, sponsors, markets and promotes a diverse calendar of sporting, cultural, arts and culinary events that showcase Western Australia as great place to live, work and visit.

Recent significant projects would include Margaret River Gourmet Escape, NRL State of Origin, Manchester United in Perth, Bledisloe Cup, ATP Cup, Fed Cup, the Margaret River Pro, the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting and (at incredibly short notice) an AFL Grand Final.

The possibilities and opportunities are endless and as Australia and Western Australia re-opens to the world following the Covid-19 pandemic this has never been a more exciting time for the importance of Tourism WA and its Events program.


The Executive Director Events is a critical role in the Executive Management Team of Tourism WA, playing a key role in accelerating the sustainable growth of the tourism industry for the long term social and economic benefit of Western Australia.

The role will provide strategic leadership, management and specialist services associated with event development, contract management and event management.

Tourism WA seek an individual with exceptional stakeholder management, communication, innovation, and commerciality to unlock new possibilities and horizons for their Event strategy.


The role will demand a proven ability to lead and manage large and complex event initiatives aligned with Government’s priorities and objectives.

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong, effective relationships across all levels of government and with industry and community groups, encouraging stakeholders to work collaboratively to improve outcomes.


Corporate Leadership and Strategic Management

As a member of the Executive Management Team:

  • Manages and evaluates Tourism WA’s operations, ensuring the coordination of projects, the setting of priorities and allocation of resources and achievement of desired outcomes.
  • Develops the strategic direction of Tourism
  • Formulates and ensures the implementation of Tourism WA’s corporate

Provides strategic leadership and management and develops policy initiatives in the areas of:

  • Event development and sponsorship
  • Event management (as appropriate).

Divisional Leadership and Strategic Management

  • Formulates the Division’s objectives, operational plans and targets to achieve corporate objectives and strategies.
  • Develops and manages the operating budgets for the Division against financial and non-financial performance targets.
  • Builds and maintains an effective work environment and
  • Manages contracts to ensure value for money and quality are
  • Exercises appropriate

Client Servicing and Relationships

  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with government agencies, industry groups and specialist organisations associated with the activities of Tourism
  • Represents Tourism WA at policy level on external committees and working
  • Responsible for ensuring the resolution of complex and/or contentious client issues in line with Tourism WA’s goals and objectives and keeps the Managing Director informed of such issues.
