Head of Brand, Customer and Community, Newcastle Jets Football Club

The Club:

The Newcastle Jets is a team that is built in a region with strong football heritage, with an uncontested football territory holding over 1.4 million people and backed by the biggest regional economy in Australia. The Jets ultimate focus is on being “A Football Club that is the Pride of our Region, the North of NSW”.

The Club maintains 15 separate teams through its Men’s, Women’s, Youth and Male & Female Academies. The Club’s primary stadium is the 33,000 seat McDonald Jones Stadium in the centre of Newcastle, whilst an annual match is also currently played in Coffs Harbour at the 8.000 capacity C.Ex Stadium.

Reporting to the CEO, a rare opportunity exists for a strategic, innovative and enthusiastic executive to join the Club and lead consumer and community activities.

Key Responsibilities:

Brand & Marketing:

  • Co-ordinate the brand efforts for the organisation
  • Ensure alignment in all marketing efforts
  • Plan and ensure delivery of overarching and week to week tactical marketing
  • Manage contra arrangements with media organisations

Consumer & Membership:

  • Hold responsibility for the overall management of membership including planning of the membership program, membership servicing and membership sales.
  • Hold revenue responsibility for membership and commercial outcomes
  • Lead a membership team


  • Lead the development of community programs that deliver engagement with the region, and drive revenue growth
  • Overseas the creation of community program delivery hubs & the relationships that exist with the delivery partners & key external stakeholders such as Northern NSW Football, Mid-North Coast Football and North Coast Football & local councils.
  • Overseas the design, quality control and marketing of these programs
  • Monitor performance of staff and program outcomes – and particularly carry responsibility for revenue against budget
  • Hold ultimate responsibility for the delivery of sponsor based programs & ensure delivery against agreed commitments
  • Co-ordinated broad community engagement by the Club including school or club visits & charity support.

Govt Relations:

  • Manage relationships with key local, state and federal govt stakeholders
  • Co-ordinate funding applications for periodic grants
  • Assist with building and delivering on key infrastructure objectives and the engagement of govt to deliver funding to support these outcomes eg. A centre of excellence for the club

About You:

  • Appropriate experience in sports or similar membership or community based organisations
  • Comfortable developing and leading customer / consumer strategy but also willing to be ‘hands-on’ in approach.
  • Leading teams and influencing broad range of stakeholders
  • Proactive in driving a best practice culture for the organisation advocating for the members and supporters. Leading by example .
  • P&L responsibility and board reporting
  • Commercial acumen and ability to drive revenue (membership & community)
  • Tertiary qualifications in relevant discipline
  • Passion and enthusiasm for sports at all levels (grassroots through to elite)
