Head of Performance Coach Development – Tennis Australia

Tennis Australia – Background

It is an exciting time for Tennis in Australia and Tennis Australia (TA) has ambitious plans to continue to grow the game from grassroots through to high performance.

To do this TA are transforming how they deliver tennis, with the aim of offering more opportunities for more players and a greater role for personal / professional coaches in identifying and developing our future talent.

TA are now looking for a Head of Performance Coach Development to join the team and help them deliver on these plans. This is a national strategic role tasked with elevating the standard of Performance Coaching in Australia.

Position Purpose

Reporting to the Player Development Lead and sitting on the Performance Leadership Team, this role will be responsible for the design, delivery and implementation of the professional development program (including establishing a national curriculum) for Australian performance coaches.

The Head of Performance Coach Development will keep abreast of world-leading coaching trends and learning practices across tennis and other sports.  They will update the curriculum and disseminate this information through structured programs and courses to the entire Australian Performance coaching network, leading a collegiate approach to World’s Best Practice Coaching across the entire tennis ecosystem.

Additionally they will contribute to the broader knowledge of performance coaching for all Australian tennis coaches; and act as a trusted sounding board for the National Tennis Academy Head Coach and National Development Squad Coaches that operate across Australia.

Role Responsibilities

  • Develop, deliver and refine the professional development program for Australian performance coaches.
  • Ensure Tennis Australia is utilizing world-leading coaching trends and learning practises. Creating a common philosophy and positive learning culture amongst all performance coaches.
  • Develop and manage a framework for the Zone and National Development squads
  • Develop and manage a framework for identifying, upskilling and retaining private development coaches nationally.
  • Working with the National Tennis Academy Head Coach to ensure the smooth transition of Australian talent to the National Tennis Academy.
  • Support camp and tour opportunities to ensure the development of players in zone squads, National Development Squads and the National Tennis Academy.
  • Champion national standards and philosophy.
  • Work closely with Head of Participation – Coach Development to ensure consistency in coaching curriculum across coach pathway
  • Assist in the development of the Tennis Australia Long Term Athlete Development Plan

Background

 The role will demand exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills. This is a holistic coaching and education role. Required background will include;

  • Sound knowledge of Performance tennis coaching (national & international) and learning practices
  • Demonstrated experience in education & training in High Performance environments
  • Ability to build professional and trusted relationships with both key internal and external stakeholders
  • Proven knowledge of all aspects of player development (technical, tactical, physical and mental)
  • Strong presentation and communication skills
  • Coaching qualification – High Performance (preferred)
  • TA coach member or willingness to become a TA coach member (essential)
  • Tertiary qualification in physical education, sport science, human movement (preferred)
  • Preparedness to be flexible with respect to working hours and be willing to travel nationally and internationally.
  • You must hold (or be willing to obtain) a current Police Check and Working with Children Check.
